4th Sunday Ordinary

“If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” We believe in God who desires to communicate with us -- speaking to us through Moses, in the letter of St. Paul and in Jesus teaching in the synagogue. We hear God’s voice in Sacred Scripture, in the Church, in prayer, in others and in the events that shape our lives. But God’s speaking is conditioned by our listening: “If today we hear his voice.” So often we are distracted and do not detect the gentle whispering sound of God’s voice. When we do hear God’s voice we may be so caught up in our own concerns that our hearts are hardened. Jesus announces the Kingdom of God and expels an evil spirit from a man possessed. Jesus heals and sets an example for us. God is calling us to care for persons in need. Our support of Catholic Charities shows that we are listening to God’s voice urging us to help distressed persons or troubled families. We express our gratitude to Sr. Mary McCarrick and Dennis Walczyk, Director and Executive Officer of Catholic Charities, for speaking to us today on the compassionate and professional services provided locally and throughout Western New York.
